In May 2025, we put out a call to flexibility service providers and large businesses in the Queenstown and Upper Clutha areas who could help with non-network capacity support during peak times on our network.

We’ve since met with more than 20 respondents ranging from battery energy storage system (BESS) providers to household aggregators. Suitable applicants have been invited to submit a full request for proposal.

We also provided feedback to other applicants so they can participate in our ongoing procurement rounds.

Current open calls

We’re looking for service providers who can reliably inject support to the network during peak times or unplanned outages, as well as commercial or industrial businesses that can reduce demand on request. We’re also open to innovative and emerging flexibility concepts if they can demonstrate reliability and customer or community benefit.

Where there are parts of our network that would benefit from flexibility solutions, we will run an open call process to seek expressions of interest, registrations, and proposals. We will open and close each process as the network needs are met.

Read our Flexibility Solutions Guide for everything you need to know about the process.
