This project commenced in mid-2023 and was completed in mid-2024.
This project saw the installation of 2.5km of ducting to prepare for the hauling of a new 33 kV underground electricity cable across Central Dunedin, which will take place in early 2025.
The cable will run from Smith Street zone substation towards North Dunedin, to the Willowbank zone substation on Great King Street. This will form part of a ring network to improve the security of electricity supply by providing back-up options for 5,900 customers supplied by the two substations.
We worked with our contractor to align our project schedule with other work underway in the area, to minimise the impact on customers and to minimise extra disruptions.
