Kaikorai Valley to Halfway Bush cable project

When will work happen?

This project began in January and is taking a staged approach until late-May 2026. The separate stages will impact different areas between Kaikorai Valley to Halfway Bush (please refer to map below for further detail). Our contractor KB Contractors Ltd will trench and lay the cable ducting along the road corridors and return at a later date to run the cable with minimal disruption.

Minimising customer impact

To minimise the impact on customers and avoid extra disruptions, we have worked with our contractor to align our project schedule with other work underway in the area. Large infrastructure projects like this one can take time to deliver. We aim to complete this project within the scheduled timeframe, but these dates are subject to change. We will keep customers updated as the project progresses, if this is the case.

Power outages and traffic management

No planned power outages are needed to complete this work, however there will be some street closures and traffic management required. We advise all customers to please factor in additional travel time and be prepared for delays. As part of this work, we need to access some private properties to lay the new cable. We communicated with affected landowners at the end of 2025 and we will continue to keep the updated.
