What are the benefits?
These improvements will strengthen the electricity supply, making it more reliable and resilient for all customers connected to the substation. The project will also improve resilience and reliability for customers in the Omakau area, as the main supply line comes from this substation.
When will work happen?
The upgrade programme started at the end of 2024 and is scheduled to be completed by March 2026. Work is being planned and delivered in stages to maintain safety and minimise disruption.
Planned outages
At the completion of this project, some planned outages will be necessary, which will affect groups of customers in Alexandra and Omakau. To minimise disruption, we’ll combine these outages with other maintenance activities in the area (such as pole replacements) to reduce the overall impact on customers.
