Due to changing technologies and the way people use electricity, we now need to get better information about which properties have EV smart chargers and solar panels/batteries, and where households and businesses are feeding the electricity they generate back into the grid (e.g. through solar panels or discharging their batteries).
This will help us identify any issues and help with planning, design and investment decisions, as well as giving us improved control over the low voltage network and the ability to proactively identify potential constraints.
At the moment, line companies like Aurora Energy don’t have detailed information about what’s happening on the low voltage electricity network, which is the part of the network that carries power from the transformers (the green boxes at the end of your street) into homes and businesses, where the electricity meter is.
Like many line companies, we’re looking at how we can put a plan in place for the future and we look forward to keeping you updated about this project as it progresses.
