Sustainability is a key driver in shaping the energy future of our communities. At Aurora Energy, we are looking for ways to reduce our own greenhouse gas emissions and waste.
We are committed to reducing our Scope 1 emissions (direct emissions from sources we own or control) and Scope 2 emissions (indirect emissions from the generation of purchased energy), excluding electricity line losses*, by 42% by 2030.
To achieve this, we are making changes like converting our motor fleet to hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs), improving energy efficiency, and reducing our reliance on diesel for backup electricity generation.
Our current fleet includes electric and hybrid cars, as well as two electric bikes, and we are working to increase the number of electric and hybrid vehicles. We have also installed a fast charger at our Dunedin office.
We are working closely with third-party contractors to ensure they follow our waste reduction and reporting requirements for emissions and waste.
Check out our latest Annual Report for more detailed information about our emissions and our Carbon and Waste Reduction strategies.
* Line losses refer to the loss of electrical energy as it travels through power lines from the source of generation to its destination (homes and businesses). Line losses do not directly produce emissions or waste, however there is an indirect link related to the resources required to generate additional electricity to compensate for the losses, such as when the generation source is fueled by fossil fuels.
