Road Closures in Place as Allanton's Electricity Supply Upgraded
03 October 2024This project will take place over six weeks between 11 October and 26 November and requires multiple road closures along the Allanton-Waihola Road (State Highway 1) and in the Allanton township. These will be in effect on different dates (outlined below), between 9:00am – 5:00pm from Friday 11 October to Tuesday 26 November.
State Highway 1 road closures:
On the following dates, there will be no access for north-bound traffic from the intersection of State Highway 1 and Henley-Berwick Road, to the intersection of State Highway 1 and Centre Road (State Highway 86):
- Thursday 7 November
- Tuesday 12 November
- Thursday 14 November
- Tuesday 19 November
- Thursday 21 November
- Tuesday 26 November
If you need to get to Allanton, Mosgiel, or Dunedin during this time you must take the signposted detour via Henley-Berwick Road.
On the following dates, there will be two times between 9am and 3pm (for a maximum of 15 minutes each time) that traffic heading in both directions on State Highway 1 will be detoured via Outram:
- Tuesday 5th November
- Tuesday 12 November
- Tuesday 19 November
- Tuesday 26 November
For south-bound traffic, this will be at the intersection of State Highway 1 and Riccarton Road. For north-bound traffic, this will be at the intersection of State Highway 1 and Henley-Berwick Road, except on 5 November when north-bound traffic will be detoured at the intersection of State Highway 1 and Centre Road (State Highway 86); please allow more time to get to and from the airport.
Allanton township road closures:
The road closures in the Allanton township will take place on different streets on different dates, and affected residents will receive further details from Traffic Management & Control (TMC). This will include reconfirmation of dates and times ahead of the project starting. During these times, vehicle access will not be available through the work zone unless in an emergency situation. However, pedestrian access will always be available.
Aurora Energy ask that everyone factor in additional travel time and plan their days accordingly. This high level of traffic management is required to keep the public and contractors safe. Please obey all traffic management signs and instructions.
Electricity network upgrades:
Aurora Energy is replacing 24 power poles, 66 cross arms, 4.5km of power lines, and carrying out six pole repairs in the area as part of a major five-year work programme to upgrade the electricity network. Power outages will take place every Tuesday and Thursday during this time period (excluding the Tuesday after Labour Day, 29 October). Residents will be advised of the dates that will impact their property from their electricity retailer (who they pay their power bill to) and Aurora Energy has also written to customers.
Aurora Energy thanks customers and commuters for their patience while this important work is being carried out.
