Aurora Energy and Bluecurrent partner to unlock network data visibility
25 March 2025More than 60,000 Bluecurrent smart meters will provide daily power quality data to Aurora Energy for the first time to help it plan its future network investment.
Aurora Energy's chief executive Richard Fletcher says, "We're excited to partner with Bluecurrent in this innovative trial to harness the power of smart meter data to gain deeper and more real-time insights into our network performance. As we transition to a decarbonised and more electrified future, this collaboration will enable us to better understand and respond to the evolving energy needs of our communities. By applying advanced data analytics and digital technologies we will be able to efficiently integrate renewable technologies and target investment to avoid future network congestion."
Bluecurrent's Chief Customer Officer Matt Bostwick says Bluecurrent's Network Operations Data Service (NODS) provides cost-effective insights for network companies as peoples energy use patterns change.
"People are rapidly shifting their energy use and NODS helps network companies keep up with the change. Consumers are moving to take advantage of reduced cost or free power times, to charging EVs, storing excess solar, and in some cases, selling energy back to the grid. Aurora is one of our customers at the forefront of the move from traditional networks to intelligent networks that respond in real time, which is critical to creating a smarter grid and supporting widespread electrification," he says.
Aurora Energy is using Bluecurrent's Network Operations Data Service to gain insights on safety, network planning and operations, EV use, solar panel use, voltage, and to support its geographic information systems.
