Our work programme has a large focus on asset replacements, including poles, cross arms, power lines, as well as upgrading and maintaining equipment. All of this work will improve the reliability and security of supply to Arrowtown and surrounding areas.
In addition to these asset replacements, we have also completed some larger projects in the area too:
Arrowtown 33 kV cable upgrade
Significant growth has been forecasted on the Arrowtown network. This project involved the upgrade of the Arrowtown 33 kV distribution line that runs from Frankton to Malaghans Road.
Previously, Arrowtown, Arthurs Point, Coronet Peak, Dalefield, Gibbston, and the Remarkables were supplied by two power lines that shared the load between them, with limited access to an alternative supply if a power outage occurred.
The new cable has provided:
- Increased capacity, catering for growth and new development in Arrowtown and surrounding areas
- Greater security of electricity supply for local customers and businesses, in particular the Coronet Peak ski field (supplied by the northern section of the line) and Remarkables ski field (supplied by the southern section of the line)
- Reduced risk of significant outages due to more options to reconfigure the network if there is a widespread outage, thereby reducing the number of customers impacted
Whitechapel Road (Crown Range) recloser installation
This project has benefited the Gibbston and Crown Range community, by reconfiguring the network to reduce the number of customers that would be impacted by future planned maintenance or unplanned outages, and also reducing the overall restoration time.
We have additional projects coming up that will also help to improve the quality of supply for the area, including:
- Rebuild of the Arrowtown zone substation
- Reconfigure of the Arrowtown 11 kV distribution line
- Rebuild of the Dalefield zone substation
- Created a back-feed supply to Coronet Peak to Dalefield, which will provide electricity supply to either zone substation in the event of a power outage
We also have ongoing power pole, crossarm, and line replacements planned.
Community support
As part of our community relations programme, we support communities where we have large work programmes underway as a thank you and gesture of goodwill for their patience.
As we continue to make good progress on our five-year investment programme, we have shown our thanks to the Arrowtown community by giving them $3,000 towards their new bike charging stations on Buckingham Street.
