Connect small-scale power generation

You've found an installer for your chosen source of power generation – what's next? 

Now your installer works with an Authorised Network Inspector to ensure your power generation is connected safely to our network. 

We look at your application to see if it can be fast-tracked or needs further assessment. If you're on the fast track, you'll receive approval automatically.

Your application will need further assessment if: 

• Your maximum export power is over 10 kW, see Large Scale Generation Connection process 
• Your inverter is not on the list of our approved inverters. If this is the case your installer will need to provide a certificate of conformity/suitability  

When further assessment is needed it can take up to 30 working days to process your application. We may ask for amendments to your system before we can approve connecting to our network. 

Depending on your retailer (who you pay your bill to) the order of this step may change.  

Let your electricity retailer know you're installing a power generation system and get their buy-back rate agreement. They can book someone to install a meter that records the import and export of power if the Authorised Network Inspector doesn't do this. 

Your equipment will be installed and then checked for compliance and safety requirements.  

Your power generation system is installed and all checks have been made. You're almost done!

This last step makes sure everyone has the correct paperwork and your power generation system is switched on and ready for use.
