If you’re heading away with the boat or you have a tall structure or machinery on the back of a truck, you need approval if it’s over 4.25 metres. This is to make sure it doesn’t touch any overhead power lines.
You can get approval from the Powerline website. Once approved, all South Island power companies will be notified of your route.
How long does it take to get approval?
Submit your route before you start work and allow up to five working days for High Load permits
- We’ll check your proposed route
- If the route is clear to the height required, you’ll receive approval to head off
- If there are low lines on your route, we’ll arrange to escort the load at no cost
Loads over 5.3 metres high
- We’ll check your proposed route
- If the route is clear to the height required, you’ll receive approval to head off
- If the route is not clear, we’ll arrange an escort. A charge will apply
- If disconnection is necessary, a 12-working day notice period is required so we can inform customers who will be affected
